Baltimore, MD – Liberia’s Ambassador to the United States, Dr. Al-Hassan Conteh, has commended the Liberia Studies Association (LSA) for its steadfast commitment to academic excellence and national development. Speaking at a reception during the 56th Annual LSA Convention held at Morgan State University’s James E. Lewis Museum, Dr. Conteh reflected on his journey from being among the first group of indigenous Liberians trained for LSA leadership to becoming its president and hosting the 34th conference in 2002.

In his remarks, Ambassador Conteh praised the LSA for its role in supporting educational reform and research in Liberia. He encouraged both young and seasoned professionals to engage with the association’s work, which he described as critical to building a stronger academic foundation for the country.

LSA President Dr. Jacien Carr welcomed a diverse audience of scholars, researchers, and dignitaries, emphasizing the power of unity and collective vision in achieving the organization's mission. He commended the attendees’ commitment and anticipated meaningful dialogue and collaboration throughout the convention.

Conference co-chairs Dr. Herbert Brewer and Professor Welma Redd also spoke about the LSA’s significant contributions to Liberia’s academic development. They urged Liberian professionals worldwide to join the movement and help strengthen the country’s research and educational infrastructure.

Professor Redd particularly highlighted the importance of scholarly collaboration in tackling systemic challenges in Liberia’s education sector and fostering innovative solutions.

Dean Dr. Mbare Ngom of James H. Gilliam College of Liberal Arts applauded the LSA for cultivating "new knowledge" through inclusive, cross-cultural scholarly dialogue.

The LSA, a nonprofit academic organization, is dedicated to promoting interdisciplinary research and preserving Liberia’s cultural and historical heritage. The convention’s opening night set a hopeful tone, with participants eager to contribute to Liberia’s educational and intellectual advancement.

With its focus on knowledge, unity, and nation-building, the 56th LSA Convention reflects the enduring commitment of scholars to shaping a brighter future for Liberia through research and academic collaboration.
