House Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon has called for stronger insurance policies for commercial vehicles and motorcyclists during the launch of Okadamotto at Paynesville City Hall. Speaker Koon highlighted the shortcomings of the current third-party insurance system, advocating for comprehensive coverage that would provide immediate financial support in the event of an accident.

"The Ministry of Transport should revisit insurance policies to ensure that commercial vehicles and trucks are required to have comprehensive insurance. This would ensure that if an accident occurs, the insurance company can step in to provide immediate support, as the vehicle operator may not have the funds at the time," Koon asserts.

Speaker Koon also praised Okadamotto which is focused on enhancing road safety and transportation convenience. Okadamotto is a platform that provides an app enabling passengers to instantly book rides and track their journey in real-time. 

The service not only offers greater convenience but also eliminates pricing inconsistencies by standardizing fares, ensuring that passengers pay a fair amount based on the distance traveled.

Furthermore, Okadamotto offers a training program for motorcyclists, equipping them with essential safety skills, and provides helmets free of charge to those who enroll. This initiative is aimed at reducing the high rates of accidents among motorcyclists and promoting safer road practices across Liberia.

Speaker Koon’s remarks highlight a dual approach to improving road safety strengthening insurance coverage for commercial vehicles and supporting programs like Okadamotto that prioritize both convenience and safety for riders and passengers.
