High-Profile Leaders Omitted from Ceremony Guest List, Far-Right Figures Invited
Several prominent global leaders, including heads of state and government, have not been invited to an upcoming ceremony, while far-right figures have secured invitations, sparking controversy.
UK Representation
Labour Party leader Keir Starmer has not been invited, his office confirmed. The United Kingdom will instead be represented by its ambassador to the US. However, Nigel Farage, leader of the Reform UK party, has been invited and will attend.
European Union Exclusions
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, alongside much of the European Union and NATO leadership, has not received invitations. This omission reflects a broader exclusion of many key European figures.
Germany
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, representing the EU’s largest economy, was not invited to the event. Germany will instead send its ambassador to the US. Interestingly, Alice Weidel, leader of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, has been invited. Co-leader Tino Chrupalla will represent the party.
France
French President Emmanuel Macron also finds himself excluded from the guest list. France, like most European countries, will be represented by its ambassador to the US.
