GANTA — Grand Gedeh County Senator Thomas Nimley has alleged that the late Nimba County Senator Prince Johnson was deeply "troubled" by the Unity Party's decision to support a resolution for the establishment of a war and economic crimes court.

Speaking in tribute to the former warlord-turned-senator, Senator Nimley claimed that Senator Johnson had expressed feelings of betrayal by the Unity Party, citing assurances made to him during the 2023 presidential campaign.

“Former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf promised Senator Prince Johnson not to establish the war and economic crimes court. Former President George Weah did the same by avoiding discussions about the court's establishment. Why Unity Party?” Senator Nimley remarked during his tribute.

The late Senator Johnson, a polarizing figure in Liberian politics, had been a vocal opponent of the court, which aims to address atrocities committed during Liberia’s civil war. Senator Nimley’s comments highlight ongoing political tensions surrounding the push for accounta

bility.
