Monrovia – Montserrado County Senator Abraham Darius Dillon has issued a strong rebuke of the Liberian government’s performance, urging an immediate shift toward accountability and effective service delivery. Speaking with legislative reporters on Monday, Dillon criticized what he described as a prolonged “honeymoon and babysitting period” for the administration, calling for a results-driven approach to governance.

“I will not sit here and allow people in major portfolios to act complacently,” Dillon stated. “We gave the President ample time in the first year, but now it is time to work for the people.” The senator’s remarks highlighted his frustration with perceived inefficiency in government operations and a call for officials to prioritize the needs of Liberians.

Push for Legislative Salary Reduction

As part of his legislative agenda, Dillon reaffirmed his commitment to addressing Liberia’s economic challenges, starting with reducing lawmakers’ salaries. He reiterated his support for the controversial $5,000 salary cap for legislators, a proposal he believes is necessary to align with the country’s economic realities.

Expressing disappointment over the lack of support for the initiative, Dillon stated, “I feel disappointed that folks in the media and my colleagues from the rescue mission are not placing enough emphasis on the bill. There is a need to reduce our salaries as lawmakers to reflect the current economic realities.” Despite this setback, Dillon acknowledged the importance of collective backing and indicated that he might abandon the proposal if it fails to gain sufficient public support.

Senate Receives High Marks but Broader Government Criticized

While critical of the administration as a whole, Dillon commended the Liberian Senate, assigning it an 80 percent performance grade. He pointed to the Senate’s efforts as a model for how the broader government could address the country’s pressing challenges. However, he warned that the government must redouble its efforts to deliver on campaign promises and meet the expectations of the Liberian people.

Dillon’s critique comes as Liberia continues to grapple with economic struggles and mounting public frustration over governance. His remarks signal a growing demand for accountability and action from both the administration and the legislative body.
