Finance Minister Tweah urges Liberians to extend the CDC's mandate for another six years in order to achieve genuine development.
According to Samuel D. Tweah, Minister of Finance and Development Planning, the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) will transform Liberia more than any other government in the country's history over the next six years.
"Our greatest adversary is time." We need more time to figure out what the overall goal of development is. "George Weah will have plenty of time in six years to take Liberia to places no one has ever taken it before," he said.
The minister's statement comes on the heels of the historic approval of the 2023 Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) scorecard. Liberia last made a pass on the scorecard with 10 out of 20 indicators.
Liberia met 12 of the 20 indicators this year. After failing miserably in 2021, the country is now eligible for consideration for a compact.
Speaking over the weekend at a dinner hosted by Monrovia Mayor Jefferson T. Koijee in honor of the Finance Minister, Minister Tweah told the audience that his team is dealing with compact-related issues, which he promises will be resolved soon.
The Finance Minister adds that the board of the 2023 Millennium Challenge Corporation will meet soon to discuss Liberia's application.
"We will present a strong case that the recent passing of the MCC scorecard shows sustained and even indicators where we did not pass - we are almost passing all across," Tweah said. So it demonstrates that we are committed to fighting corruption and that we are investing across multiple sectors. We intend to invest more in education and health in the future."
"As a result, we are seeking additional resources from the United States, and we are grateful for the first MCC compact; we appreciate MCC support because it is linked to the private sector." It eliminates constraints. "Getting the MCC grant means you're doing something concrete to help people get out of poverty," he explained.
Mr. Tweah, who is still speaking, stated that President George Weah's early tough decisions resulted in the successful passage of the 2023 Millenium Challenge Corporation (MCC) scorecard.
Since the establishment of the CDC-led government, he claims, there have been numerous battles to reform Liberia's governance structure.
"For his (Weah) administration to pass is a clarion call to the world that everything said about this man (Weah) since his ascendency is rubbish because the MCC calculation is not political in nature - their interest is in evidence and data," Minister Tweah explained.
"The MCC scorecard has validated that we are good at justice, giving people economic freedom, and investing in people," he added. We are in control of corruption. We have taken the most significant step in the fight against corruption."
Next Year, Liberia Will Pass 15 Indicators
In addition, Liberia's Finance Minister stated that despite passing 12 indicators this year, the country is on track to pass 15 indicators next year.
The Minister has stated that he will call a large meeting of all government entities to thank everyone for the passage of the MCC scorecard.
"We're going to look at our compact itself, how we approach the state's department, the MCC, and everything else," he said.
We now have 12 for the first time. Given the government's tenacity and the determination of all entities to work under the President's auspices, we will pass 15 indicators next year.
