Prior to the 2023 general and presidential elections in Liberia, the Senator Nyonblee Karnga Lawrence faction of the opposition Liberty Party has petitioned the international community to remove Counselor Davidetta Browne Lasannah from her position as chair of the National Elections Commission (NEC) due to her alleged partisanship, meddling in intra-party matters, and conflict of interest in carrying out her official duties.

Over the weekend in Monrovia, the petition was delivered to the United Nations Resident Coordinator, the heads of the AU and EU delegations, Michael McCarthy, the US ambassador, and Josephine Nkrumah, the ECOWAS ambassador to Liberia.

Sen. Nyonblee Karnga Lawrence, the party's political leader, signed it when it was delivered.

The National Elections Commission received a similar plea from Senator Lawrence, who was also in charge of a group of executives, partisans, and others (NEC).

During the course of its intra-Party conflict, the LP disclosed in the petition that it had a close relationship with the NEC Board of Commissioners. However, the commission "has relegated its non-partisan role to that of a partisan institution that proceeds to embolden the conflict within the Liberty Party" during that time.

It was noted that Section 3.4 of the Revised Guidelines of the Elections Commission mandates that after a party convention, the chairperson/presiding officer of the Convention and the secretary must submit the records of the proceedings.

On the other hand, the party added that after hiding the final records, which included the amended Constitution and the minutes from the Political Leader, the newly elected Chairman and Secretary of the Liberty Party for 2021, Musa Bility and Martin Kollah, respectively, submitted the Liberty Party's 2021 Convention records on February 26, 2021.

"The two elected officers changed sections pertaining to the relationship of power between the Political Leader and the National Executive Committee in addition to surreptitiously submitting the documents without the Chairperson/Presiding officer of the Convention's knowledge. As a result, the Political Leader told the NEC that the convention documents had been presented in violation of the Commission's Revised Guidelines and that delegate-approved sections had been changed, necessitating their retrieval for correction.

Such a request was denied by the NEC, which insisted that it could not return the document until it had been properly contested.

The opposing parties met on October 2, 2021 at the Farmington Hotel after the party claimed that the commission also ordered the LP to move forward and use its own mechanisms to resolve the disagreement.

At the conference, the LP petition made it known that, after a study of the convention's records, it was acknowledged that some sections had been altered from its constitution.

The revised constitution's withdrawal and correction were officially agreed upon in a memorandum of agreement that the two parties likewise signed.

Although the Farmington MOU and the National Advisory Council report were included in the statement,
