President Weah's unwavering commitment to ensuring free, fair, transparent, and democratic elections in October 2023 is reiterated by Foreign Minister Kemayah.
Dee Maxwell Saah Kemayah, Sr., Liberia's foreign minister, has underlined President George Mannah Weah's unshakeable commitment to seeing to it that the country's general and presidential elections be held in October 2023 in a manner consistent with international best practices.
The Liberian Foreign Minister also promised the populace and foreign allies that the government will always be fully ready to hold free and fair elections in Liberia.
The Dialogues on Peace, Security, and Development in Liberia were inaugurated at a ceremony on Friday, October 21, 2022 at the Centennial Memorial Pavilion, according to an announcement from the Liberian Foreign Ministry.
Minister Kemayah said that "our democratic course as a country and people is irrevocable" and that "the democratic culture of which Liberians have suffered for so dearly must in all certain terms definitely not be permitted to be interrupted."
The Minister said "As a government, we would ensure that the democratic process will not be impeded" in response to a question on peace and stability in Liberia. But it will also need the unwavering support and cooperation of all Liberians, political parties, and other actors in the country.
In the lead-up to the general and parliamentary elections in October 2023, the debate, which was organized with the support of Liberia's foreign partners, including ECOWAS and others, aims to contribute to conflict prevention and risk mitigation.
The Liberian Foreign Minister praised the efforts of the dialogue's organizers, praising them as a great project that needs the support of all well-meaning Liberians and partners. The talks are also intended to lessen conflict in Liberia and the surrounding region.
He reassured the dialogue's organizers that Liberia's government is fully behind them as they take on these admirable duties, pointing out that peace is the cornerstone upon which security and progress are built.
According to Amb. Kemayah, security and development are inextricably linked, and neither can exist without the other. He underlined that security and peace serve as the foundation for all societal advancement, including growth, development, and modernization.
No matter how alluring or threatening a scenario may be, the Liberian Foreign Minister utilized the occasion to urge Liberians to never choose the route of violence, emphasizing that peace is and must remain a permanent course for Liberia and the Liberian people.
He said that the design and execution of these dialogues fall under the purview of the practical preventive democracy, which will, in comparison to mediation, negotiation, conciliation, and settlement, yield higher benefits.
Because of this, he stated his optimism that the Liberian people will view the discussions on peace, security, and development as a worthwhile and important endeavor that must receive the full support of Liberians with good intentions.
The chief diplomat for Liberia also expressed hope that with the beginning of the discussions, Liberia's friends and allies will be prepared to help the country's pressing need for peace, security, and prosperity.
To further advance and consolidate Liberia's peace, stability, and democracy, he urged foreign partners to continue their active assistance and activities there.
Members of the legislative, judicial, and executive branches as well as the National Elections Commission, civil society organizations, the disabled community, political parties, etc. participated in the debate.
