Tokyo is Japan's busiest capital. It is a mix of both modern and traditional religions, not just the skyscrapers lit up with neon lights, but also the historic temples. There is a magnificent Meiji Shinto shrine, renowned in Japan for its massive gates and surrounding forests. The imperial palace is built amidst huge public parks. Several national museums here display a variety of exhibitions, from classical art to a reconstructed Kabuki theater (at the Edo-Tokyo Museum). People come to visit famous and popular shrines here to know what time it is in Tokyo right now.

Although they have been rebuilt over time due to damage caused by fire, earthquakes, or war, their sites and history remain ancient. Here are some of the most popular historical temples in Tokyo, which are included in the Things to Do in Tokyo and have always remained popular for their cultural significance, architecture, and peaceful atmosphere -

1. Senso-ji Temple (Asakusa) -

Description - This is the oldest and probably the most famous Buddhist temple in Tokyo, founded in 645 AD. The site has deep and strong historical roots and remains popular among the people. The temple is dedicated to Kannon, the Bodhisattva of Compassion. It features the iconic Kaminarimon, also known as the Gate of the Thunderbolt, as well as Nakamise-dori, a traditional shopping street, and a five-story pagoda. It is one of the most visited religious sites in the world. The temples are named after the goddess Kannon. It is located in Nakamise-dori, a bustling area with a traditional shopping street.

2. Meiji Jingu Shrine –

Description - Surrounded by lush forest right in the middle of Tokyo, this Shinto shrine is dedicated to the spirits of Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken, who helped Japan become a modern nation. Built in 1920, it is surrounded by a vast evergreen forest, making it a very peaceful retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The place also hosts annual pilgrimages and traditional weddings. Meiji Jingu is a main attraction in Tokyo as it is a stopover. A visit to the main sanctuary of the temple provides a quiet walk from the busy Shibuya and Harajuku.

3. Zojoji Temple –

Description - Zojoji Temple is located in the Minato district of Tokyo. Known for its beauty and a historically crucial Buddhist temple, the modern Tokyo Tower, visible in the background, is the main attraction here. This creates an excellent contrast. Zōjō-ji Temple is a significant tourist attraction in Tokyo. It was also known for a long time as the family temple of the Tokugawa Shogun dynasty.

4. Nezu Shrine –
