A straightforward investigation into a celebrity's death turns into a story about grief, guilt and ghosts. The moment you realize Rosie, a main character, was a spirit all along very much adds a haunting emotional layer. Another interesting twist that still resonates in discussions is what happens at the end of "Drishyam" (2015), an engaging crime thriller about a "simple" man who gets involved in a murder investigation to protect his family. Until the end, the audience is kept guessing what happens, and when the police finally exhume what they assume is a grave — to find an animal carcass — the audience is left speechless at the main character's cleverness. This Hindi version is great based on the Malayalam original. I loved it! 

"Andadhun" (2018) has an eventual twist in its own right. There is dark comedy and suspense all rolled into one, surprising audiences with the actual twist, a blind pianist who may not be blind at all. A lot of twists and turns follow, so you may want to pay attention, but ultimately it is a film worth it.
Even love stories aren't immune to surprises. Raanjhanaa (2013) starts as a tale of one-sided love and slowly transfers into a political tragedy. The form of betrayal, manipulation, and outcome of the characters have a significant emotional impact. It also signifies how even love stories can end up having darker turns in Bollywood which makes you start to think.
