Elon Musk's Digital Town Hall for Trump Supporters Ends Abruptly Due to Technical Issues
On Monday, Elon Musk attempted a digital town-hall-style event on X, similar to his past efforts supporting former President Donald Trump. However, the event ended abruptly due to technical difficulties shortly after it began.
The livestream, scheduled for 8 p.m. ET, started over 20 minutes late. When Musk joined, he promoted his recent podcast with Joe Rogan and invited questions. An operator attempted to field questions from listeners, but the line went silent when the first question was called, leading to a disruption.
When asked if he believed "we will win" on Tuesday, likely referring to Trump, Musk responded, “If people vote tomorrow, we’re definitely going to win.” Shortly after, Musk canceled the event, citing technical issues, and promised to start regular livestreams on X Spaces. However, a subsequent X Spaces event launched by Musk lasted only a minute and had no audio.
Following the disrupted event, Musk turned his attention to unrelated topics on social media, such as a squirrel that had gone viral and was euthanized over the weekend. He also encouraged followers to listen to his Joe Rogan interview, which included Rogan’s endorsement of Trump.
This incident is one of several election-related events Musk has hosted on X that have been plagued by technical issues. A similar August interview with Trump faced a 40-minute delay, which Musk attributed to a cyberattack, though experts speculated it was caused by an overwhelming number of listeners. Additionally, an event launching Ron DeSantis’ presidential campaign last year was delayed by 25 minutes due to similar glitches.
