The history of the Tiranga is closely tied to India’s freedom struggle. Prior to independence, various flags were used by revolutionaries and regional movements, each representing the aspiration for liberty and self-rule. On 22nd July 1947, just weeks before India gained independence on 15th August 1947, the Constituent Assembly officially adopted the present design of the Tiranga. Since then, it has become the nation’s official symbol of sovereignty, freedom, and unity, representing the sacrifices, hopes, and dreams of countless Indians.
