On Thursday, October 27, 2022, at noon, the Liberian Senate has invited the Secretariat of the Liberia Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (LEITI) to appear before Plenary convened in a Committee of the Whole to provide necessary information on the status of its work and the difficulties it faces.
The numerous mining and logging firms' compliance issues as well as upcoming work schedules will be covered in this.
The invitation given to the LEITI Authority is based on a communication to the Senate Plenary from Grand Kru County Senator Numene T.H. Bartekwa requesting the appearance of the entity, according to a Senate Press and Public Affairs Release.
The Grand Kru County Senator stated that the conference will give Senators the chance to communicate with the LEITI Secretariat, whose work is crucial for generating income and ensuring the sustainability of livelihood for the numerous rural populations dependent on the extractive industry.
Just a few days after Senator Albert T. Chie, Senate Pro-Tempore, called for the need to reform the mining and logging industries, make them productive, transparent, and accountable, the LEITI has been invited to speak before the Liberian Senate's Committee of the Whole.
