Monrovia, Liberia – Mrs. Amira Boyidee Johnson, the widow of the late Nimba County Senator Prince Y. Johnson, is being considered as a strong contender for the upcoming senatorial by-election in Nimba County. Her potential candidacy has gained momentum as supporters push for her to complete her late husband’s unfinished term and continue his political legacy.

In an exclusive interview over the weekend in Nimba County, Dr. Jeremiah Z. Whapoe, leader of the Vision for Liberia Transformation Party and a two-time presidential candidate, publicly endorsed Mrs. Johnson. He praised her as an educated, capable, and people-focused leader who could advance the vision of her late husband.

“There’s a one-million-dollar question: who replaces Senator Johnson? I believe it should be his wife. She understands his vision better than anyone and can effectively complete his term,” Dr. Whapoe stated.

Dr. Whapoe revealed that local elders had encouraged him to contest the vacant seat but said he declined, emphasizing that honoring Senator Johnson’s memory through his widow’s leadership was more important. He described the by-election as a critical opportunity for unity in Nimba County and called on the people to rally behind Mrs. Johnson.

He further noted that Mrs. Johnson’s leadership would focus on completing her husband’s term, leaving the seat open for other contenders in future elections.

Regarding recent political developments, Dr. Whapoe addressed the symbolic handover of Nimba’s traditional gavel to Representative Samuel Kogar during a ritual ceremony. He clarified that the event was purely ceremonial and did not constitute an official endorsement for the by-election. Dr. Whapoe urged Representative Kogar to step aside should Mrs. Johnson decide to run, referring to her as “the mother of Nimba.”
