The Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) has disregarded and distanced itself from demands for demonstrations against US Ambassador Michael McCarthy made by some members of the public who claim to be government supporters.

After the U.S. Ambassador warned Liberians and financial institutions of the repercussions of doing business with people the U.S. State Department had sanctioned, demands for a protest against him appeared on Bana FM.

Many callers to Bana FM asked Liberians to demonstrate in large numbers to denounce the American Ambassador for purportedly defaming the Weah-led administration.

He was charged with interfering in Liberian politics and being hostile to President Weah. Additionally, they asserted that he backs opposition presidential candidate Alexander Cummings.
"We'll eject him from Liberia. We are sick of the menace that this American Ambassador Michael McCarthy poses, so we will come out in full force to demonstrate against him, a caller remarked.

The National Executive Committee of the CDC, however, dismissed the accusations made against the U.S. Ambassador as unfounded and the work of haters who might be passing themselves off as pro-government supporters in an effort to damage the reputation of the Liberian government and sour the cordial bilateral relations between the Weah administration and the United States of America.

The Coalition for Democratic Change, headed by President George M. Weah, wants to be very clear that they will never oppose the United States of America in the expression of their official views. Regardless of differences of opinion, the CDC will continue to uphold the values of tolerance and freedom of expression.

The CDC claims that it has a variety of diplomatic avenues at its disposal through which respectfully constructive discussions can be sought when and if appropriate in areas of shared interest.

CDC: "Ambassador McCarthy is a trusted senior member of the diplomatic community and a good friend of Liberia's transformative program under the vibrant leadership of H.E. President George Manneh Weah. The Mandela Washington Fellowship Program, which trains numerous young Liberians to become professionals, and his dedication to respect, inclusive discourse, democratic values can all be attested to by the Coalition for Democratic Change. Therefore, the Coalition for Democratic Change sees Ambassador McCarthy as a potential success partner who nonetheless offers candid critiques of the administration's policies.

Regardless of the political leanings of the alleged masterminds of the outrageous utterances, the Coalition for Democratic Change condemns the verbal attacks against US Ambassador to Liberia Michael McCarthy and advises all CDC members to exercise due caution and refrain from remarks that could be construed as careless, offensive, and unpatriotic.

In accordance with Liberia's international commitments under the Vienna Convention, the Coalition for Democratic Change reaffirms its commitment to peace, stability, and the rule of law, including the respect for diplomatic missions and international organizations accredited to Liberia.

The United States continues to support Liberia's development efforts through its foreign assistance programs and her embassy close to Monrovia as the country's top and most steadfast ally, a feat that is currently being carried out by the Weah administration. Under the leadership of various ambassadors stationed in Monrovia, including the present ambassador Michael McCarthy, the US-Liberian relationship is flourishing and keeps getting stronger. We, as a people, will always be indebted to Washington for the immeasurable help indicated above, and we urge all Weah-led administration supporters to respect and continue to value the U.S. diplomatic mission rather than succumb to disinformation and propaganda tactics.

The CDC urges all of its partisans, well-wishers, and supporters of the Weah administration not to join anyone making statements against the Ambassador as it says it is still focused on getting ready for its December 20th Nomination Program, which follows the successful launch of its Due Payments Drive. The CDC further urges the continuance of active community mobilization for the anticipated event!
