FaceLiberia has learned that Oliver Zayzay, a Liberian suspected of importing cocaine worth around $100 million dollars into Liberia, has been freed from the Monrovia Central Prison.

In an attempt to leave Liberia after the famous cocaine bust, Zayzay, Makki Ahmed, and Adulai Djibril Djalo were apprehended on October 6 in Sierra Leone and turned over to the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency.

After nearly three weeks of questioning by the Drugs Enforcement Agency, he and other suspects were sent to the Monrovia Central Prison.

Uncertainty surrounds the circumstances of his release from Monrovia Central Prison.

However, the informants who informed the U.S. about the cocaine's finding Embassy and the Liberian government worry that his release may put their lives in danger.

Their concern is a result of threats made against them by some of the suspects connected to the contraband cargo, who allegedly took pictures and videos of them on their phones and forwarded them over WhatsApp to their partners. The whistleblowers claim that when they were detained by state security agents who had been discreetly summoned to the site by the whistleblowers, the suspects threatened them with death.

FaceLiberia learned that the Justice Minister, Cllr., has been informed of their concern. Dean Frank Musa

According to the police investigation, Zayzay, the owner of Prime Logistic and Supplies, helped co-accused Makki Ahmed and Adulai Djibril Djalo, who were sought by the Liberian government for transporting the cocaine to Liberia, flee to Sierra Leone.

According to reports, Zayzay got in touch with co-defendants Malam Conte and Adulal Djibril Djalo after his friend Pillar asked him to do so. Pillar had told him that some of his colleagues had come in Monrovia and required rental cars.

In order to avoid arrest of the wanted co-defendants, Zayzay drove co-defendants Makki Ahmed Issam and Adulal Djibril Djalo to the Liberia-Sierra Leone border on Saturday, October 1, 2022. They then used an illegal crossing site along the Mano River during the night.

How Often Zayzay Was Involved in This?

The Daily Observer had earlier claimed that Zayzay and his Brazilian friend had gone into the AJA Group headquarters at Bong Mines Pier in Monrovia to buy a container of pig feet when the cocaine arrest began.

The first employee they spoke to asked for more information because it seemed like the men wanted to make a bigger purchase than normal. It appears that the AJA business imports containers of fresh frozen food, both for its own supermarket and for other retailers, such market women. What could one person possibly want with such a large consignment of pig feet, though, if they requested the entire container?

Zayzay explained to the receptionist at the AJA Group office, "We want to transport it to Abidjan to sell."
The first warning sign was this. The attendant, who was well-versed in the supply and demand dynamics in the sub-regional market, informed Zayzay and his companion right away that pig feet were not the item that the Ivoirians typically wanted. Chicken was used.

An Inappropriate Time for His Release?

Zayzay's release coincides with the amendment of the Liberian Drug Law by the Senate, which divides drug charges into two categories and makes them either non-bailable or bailable depending on the seriousness of the offence.

In accordance with the wisdom of the Senate, people who are engaged in the importation, distribution, mass manufacture, and custody of illegal substances shall not be given the right to bail when captured in the act, whereas end consumers of the drugs shall have that privilege.

Before the Act was passed, Grand Bassa County Senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence filed a motion along with a report from the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Claim, and Petition.

A Conference Committee was established by President Pro Tempore Albert Chie to collaborate with the House of Representatives in harmonizing the Act's essential provisions before it was sent to the Senate for approval. The Act had already been approved by the House of Representatives.
Senators Varney G. Sherman of Grand Cape Mount County, Nyonblee Karnga Lawrence of Grand Bassa County, Augustine Chea of Sinoe County, Steve A. Zargo, and Joseph K. Jallah of Lofa County have all been selected to the Conference Committee.
